I don't know what to compare this smell to, maybe wet cardboard, I don't know… These boxes are made of cardboard covered with fabric inside. I sprayed the box I'm going to use now with deodorant and the smell has diminished or is less noticeable now. The box has a handle on only one side. All boxes arrived folded but it was quite easy to put the boxes together. The contents of the box are of good quality, a little wobbly on the folding edges but that's understandable.
